Please tell us about yourself.
A 52 year old Buffalo native with a 40 year love affair with photography. Originally bullheaded about even acknowledging the digital age, four years ago I made the jump and I haven’t looked back, nor picked up my film cameras, once. DSLR’s reignited the passion and elevated the playing the field to a whole new level. Instant gratification never felt better.
If you are not a full time photographer, what do you do for a living?
I work for my church helping to write and prepare their newsletters, printed programs, visual presentations and simple IT support.
How did you first hear about photowalking?
I read about Scott Kelby’s 2008 walk in Philadelphia, applied to be a host, but it never materialized.
How many photowalks did you attend before hosting your own?
Zero.
About how many photowalks have you hosted since then?
At least six and we have ten planned for this year (occurring on the second weekend of the month). Next up is a personalized, photo-specific tour with the zookeepers of Brandywine Zoo in Wilmington, Delaware.
What tips do you have for someone looking to host a photowalk?
Like Nike said, “Just do it.” There’s no down side. Taking your camera out for a walk anytime is stimulates the mind and exercises the body.
What tips do you have for someone looking to join a photowalk?
Search photowalklist.com, look for the nearest walk and RSVP. You won’t be disappointed. New friends with similar interests are only a shutter click away. There’s something very powerful about surrounding yourself with a small group of like-minded artists.
